Title: The Art of Watercolor Painting: A Dive into Fluid Creativity

Introduction:

Watercolor painting, a captivating and versatile medium, has enchanted artists for centuries. With its ability to capture light, evoke emotions, and create ethereal landscapes, watercolor is a medium like no other. In this blog post, we'll explore the enchanting world of watercolor painting, from its history and essential techniques to tips for beginners and the limitless creative possibilities it offers.

A Brief History of Watercolor:

Watercolor painting dates back to ancient civilizations, with early examples found in Egyptian hieroglyphs and illuminated manuscripts. However, it gained prominence during the Renaissance in Europe when artists began to experiment with it. Albrecht Dürer and Leonardo da Vinci were among the early adopters who explored the medium's potential.

Watercolor gained popularity as a medium for botanical illustrations, landscapes, and architectural renderings during the 18th and 19th centuries. The translucent quality of watercolors allowed artists to depict delicate details and the play of light with unmatched precision.

Essential Watercolor Techniques:

1. Wet-on-Wet: This technique involves applying paint to a wet paper surface, creating soft edges and blending colors seamlessly. It's perfect for creating dreamy, atmospheric effects.

2. Dry Brush: Using minimal water, the dry brush technique produces fine lines and textures, ideal for adding intricate details or creating a textured background.

3. Lifting: Watercolor artists can remove paint from a dried surface by gently scrubbing it with a damp brush or paper towel, allowing for corrections and highlights.

4. Layering: Building up layers of translucent color is a fundamental technique in watercolor painting. By layering colors, artists can achieve depth and richness in their work.

Tips for Beginners:

1. Start with quality supplies: Invest in good-quality watercolor paper, paints, and brushes. It makes a significant difference in your results.

2. Practice color mixing: Understanding how different pigments interact is essential. Experiment with mixing primary colors to create a wide range of hues.

3. Learn from others: Watch tutorials, read books, and take classes to learn from experienced watercolor artists. Their insights can help you grow as an artist.

4. Embrace mistakes: Watercolor can be unpredictable, but sometimes accidents lead to beautiful results. Don't be afraid to experiment and learn from your errors.

Creative Possibilities:

Watercolor allows artists to explore various subjects, from vibrant floral arrangements to serene landscapes and detailed portraits. It's also a popular medium for creating greeting cards, journaling, and illustrating children's books. Additionally, many artists combine watercolor with other mediums like ink or gouache to expand their creative horizons.

Conclusion:

Watercolor painting is a captivating and expressive medium that offers artists endless opportunities for creativity. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, the fluidity and luminosity of watercolors make them a medium worth exploring. So, grab your brushes, embrace the unpredictable nature of watercolor, and dive into a world of artistic possibilities that await your discovery. Happy painting!

Art with paint pens

I have recently tried paint pens for the first time

having a set of 24 colours I decided to try them on some mdf plaques I have.

The first one I created was some iconic beach huts in bright colours. I painted the back ground first with some white acrylic paint and then used the paint pens to create my design. I am hoping to create some more art using these paint pens on different surfaces maybe some painted rocks but it certainly was lots of fun I would highly recommend getting some

Amazing Tarot

Amazing Tarot!

It never ceases to amaze me how astonishingly accurate the Tarot can be.
As usual when you surf the web you never know where your going to end up and life can also feel like this too, synchronicity (the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection."such synchronicity is quite staggering") is the key word for me today.
Here's why.
I was surfing YOUTUBE when I looked at my recommended videos as sometimes I find an interesting gem among them, I came across Brigit from Biddy Tarot and found the following video for her monthly forecast for this October 2016 so i decided to watch. I was quite amazed at how almost all of her three card reading related to ME! Her interpretations of the cards were pretty specific too. However working with the tarot for as many years as I have I shouldn't have been suprised at all. But nevertheless it is magical when the universe flows together like this.
Brigit also reflects this in some wonderful soul meditations that can take you deeper down the rabbit hole and help you to really harness the true power of the tarot. These guided meditations are wonderful tools wether you just want to deepen your understanding of the tarot to get more from readings or if your a reader yourself but it doesnt stop there...Oh no there is so much more magic than this. check out her site just click on the picture below and start mastering your destiny and designing your life, who knows where it could take you.

Zen tangle your mind

Zentangle® is known to many artists and craftivistas as a way to create structured designs through drawing various patterns. Sometimes mistakenly called “Zendoodling” or “tangle doodling,” Zentangling or tangling is actually a formalized process that defines itself as something other than mere doodling because of its theory and approach. Rick Roberts and Mary Thomas [www.zentangle.com(link is external)] are the originators of the trademarked Zentangle method. Basically, it’s a specific way to draw images, most often in black pen on white paper. Zentangle has become an international phenomenon that now has applications in stress reduction, education, therapy and even motivational training.
Zentangle itself may be relatively new, but the basic principles involved are as old as the history of art. It includes ritual [a core practice in ancient and contemporary arts] and mirrors the symbols, designs and patterns of numerous cultures [Mayan, Maori, Celtic, and American Indian, for example] from ancient through present times. And like “doodling” it is based on a human behavior in which one refrains from planning and allows lines and shapes to unintentionally emerge.
There are numerous books on the formal method of Zentangle that will help you get started; these books provide numerous designs and show you how to create various patterns, step-by-step. Or simply search the Internet [especially Pinterest] to find instructions and inspiration for designs—then make up your own once you practice a few patterns. You really only need a few materials to create your designs: a pencil [used to mark out guidelines and to shade areas of designs], a black pen [Micron® pens are recommended, but you can also use the ubiquitous extra fine Sharpie® pen], and heavy white drawing paper or cardstock. The traditional practice of Zentangling uses 3 ½ inch square tiles made of special paper, but you can cut your own choice of paper into squares or completely “break the rules” and tangle on whatever type of paper you want to. If your children want to Zentangle along with you, they will find it easier to draw larger designs with bigger pens such as a fine point Sharpie® or large felt pens.
Why am I interested in Zentangle? While the process may look intricate, it is a deceptively simple pathway to relaxation and inner focus. In fact, proponents of the practice note that it has multiple benefits including calming an anxious mind, increasing self-confidence, and cultivating moment-to-moment awareness in a similar way as mindfulness meditation. Here are some other benefits:
It’s Self-Soothing. Repetitive creative work, in and of itself, can be calming and self-soothing. In fact, some of the preliminary research on the Zentangle process indicates that engagement in the process has measurable relaxation benefits. This is particularly true if you accept this process as one with no expected outcome other than the enjoyment of putting the pen to paper and staying open to whatever emerges.
It’s Simple. Zentangle art only requires a black pen and paper; you can do it just about anywhere. I can attest to the fact that any airplane flight goes by more pleasurably when I am tangling. Look for things you can tangle on like business card, coasters and even newspapers [tangle right over the printed pages].
It Teaches How to Own Mistakes. Using a pen on paper requires that you risk making mistakes; in fact, most tangle art has at least some misplaced lines which cannot be erased. Tangling teaches you how to incorporate what seem like “mistakes” into the overall pattern of the design. It’s a great metaphor for everyday life—nothing is ever perfect, but how you adjust to imperfections [mistakes or the unexpected] in life is what really matters.
It Reinforces “Aimlessness.” Many Zentangle enthusiasts highlight the tangle doodle process as a form of mindfulness. I like to think of tangling as a form of "creative aimlessness." Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh observes that we need to cultivate aimlessness in life rather than continually striving to be “number one.” For example, when we practice walking meditation, we are not trying to arrive anywhere in particular; in fact, if we stay focused on the future, we lose the joy of our steps in the here and now. The same is true of the process of tangling. If we get caught up in judgment and deliberation, we are not in the here and now. But if we simply enjoy the creative process, we can enjoy every single moment of it and that is ultimately what any creative expression offers us. Zentangle teaches us not to rush and to take good care of ourselves in the present moment—after all, the present moment is all there is.
Keep Calm and Zentangle On,

Even if the world is gloomy
there's no need to feel all doomy.
Just take a look around
at all the beauty to be found.
And if you have the time,
to make some one else smile.
Get out some stickers and some glue,
some papers and gems too.
Mix them up with love and care
and create something to share.
